Godspeed, and Good Hunting

[by Mr.Hengist]

Awesome: The USS New York has set sail on her maiden voyage to New York City, where she will be commissioned into the fleet on November 7th, 2009.

Saw this on the news yesterday, and thought of our various conversations about this ship. Seems a very capable vessel, well-suited to the sorts of conflicts before us (which, given the current course of the US's foreign policy, will likely come very much in handy in years to come, alas). Also very capable of serving as a platform for humanitarian aid and other less traditionally 'military' missions.

The fact that it also incorporates over 7 tons of WTC steel fills me with grief and pride.

Godspeed, indeed!
